I’m super happy with it. I am very picky about my sound quality and this does a great job with music and movies. I have it paired with a Denon receiver and definitive surrounds. For anyone looking for good bass sound quality at a good price point, this is it.”

The bass is deep and rich, not distorted at all, even at louder volumes It was superior to my existing powered subwoofer and I liked it so much that I bought a second one the following week. 3. Klipsch R-120SW

For good reasons, the Klipsch R-120SW is the most famous and absolute highest-rated on this list. Put plainly, we believe it provides the best sound quality of any subwoofer under $400. However, there are a plethora of reasons why we adore it.

For one, it has an attractive design that’ll boost the aesthetic value of your home. The appearance is modern, rich, and matches just about any room.

In terms of how it gets the superb audio fidelity and stunning bass, there are a few technical aspects worth mentioning. It produces the highest wattage power of any subwoofer on this list 400 Watts. Moreover, the acoustic output is 116dB, it’s constructed of 12-inch high-excursion spun copper, and has an integrated digital amplifier.

Recently, this subwoofer had a hefty price cut of 24% off the original amount. Although we’re unsure if this discount is permanent or temporary, we believe it’s, either way, an incredible bang for the buck. It’s our most recommended on this list!

Users Say: “Even though I’ve owned Klipsch products for years, I am still impressed with the incredible sounds this thing puts out. It is a perfect compliment to my R-28PF’s. 4. Cambridge Audio Minx X201

Here is yet another fabulous subwoofer with a futuristic sleek design. Running under $400, the Cambridge Audio Minx X201 produces a thunderous bass sound that’s clean, rich, and deep.

One of its most prominent features is its petite size. While we were raving about one of the previous woofers for not taking up too much space, this one is significantly smaller at only 8.7 x 8.3 x 8.6 inches. You can even snugly fit it in a bookshelf.

While its miniature construction is abnormally convenient for a subwoofer, the downside is it has a bit of trouble with the lower register frequency around 60Hz. Most people don’t notice it. However, if you’re an audiophile that’s very particular about the low-end, we recommend one of the Klipsch subwoofers.

Users Say: “I’ve always wanted to check out the Cambridge stuff… This little sub seemed like a “punk” when compared around, but I needed something little for my desktop. I hooked this sub up with a couple of KEF Eggs for my desktop system. WHOA. Amazing is the word.”

Tech Specs & Details

  • Sizes: 8.7 x 8.3 x 8.6
  • Weight: 11 pounds
  • 200 Watt

5. Klipsch R-100SW

Like the previous Klipsch on this list, this one is essentially identical with a few differences to consider. The Klipsch R-100SW is nearly $110 cheaper with about 100 Watts fewer delivering a 300 peak Wattage.

When it’s all said and done, if you need the absolute best sounding and most trustworthy subwoofer with no more than 300 Watts, this one is your best bet. But if you want over 300 Watts, you’re better off with the previous Klipsch.

Currently, this subwoofer is also on a 32% reduction in price making it an even better value. It’s running well below $400 but certainly over performs the price by a vast margin.

Users Say: “I only thought I had a nice sub before this. This pumps out super tight and clean bass you can feel. This will rattle some tin signs I have on a wall two rooms away. Mine only switches off and I have to restart it every time. there is a setting to change but it is NOT in the instruction manual. It was in the setup sheet that got tossed after I set it up. Maybe you can figure out the size of your room based on that and determine whether or not you’d like to move forward. The sound is very clean, the bass is plenty.
